![]() Thursday, September 26, 2002 Visited the flicks on Wednesday night - i aint been to the cinema in a very long time - it's hard to beat the old Dolby surround sound and the speckles on the screen. The movie of choice was Bourne Identity starring Matt Daemon. I'm definitely no Barry Norman or Jonathan Ross so if you want to know what the movie is about check out the cinema link on your right, in the links section, and you'll get a pro review. As for my thoughts on the movie - it was ok. It provided some good action scenes including one cracker mini chase - not in the sense that it was a short lived chase but in the sense that the automobile being chased was a little red car similar to Mr Bean's green one! So good in parts but i guess I just felt that the overall plot was a wee bit patchy - it didn't really flow right through and also left lots of holes and unanswered questions - perhaps this was the aim - a movie that leaves people wondering, one that is loaded with the possibility of stimulating further discussion/questions. Would watching it make me want to see it again? Not really. Maybe some of y'all have seen it - let me know some of your thoughts in an email if you have. posted by charlie | 10:12 PM | Monday, September 23, 2002 Well hello all. I've been resting the past few days with this thing - too much computer is a bad thing. I think it's important to take a break from these things - at least for a day - so i did! The past two days have been pretty good - of course it was me living them - so they were far from perfect but i was graced with many good times. Yesterday afternoon i made a pilgrimage back to the old faithful Drumkeeragh forest where i was graced with the opportunity to sap up some of the sensual delights it offers. That place is so full of God's glory - it's like a haven for me. The variety of colours, noises, and textures just blows me away - simple things - like the contrast of the light brown branches and the green needles is so beautiful, those plants that disperse their seeds in the wind - it's cool just watching the seeds getting picked up and carried off into the distance, a little robin whistling a tune. OK - so i sound like a bit of a weirdo - when i told paul coles about just enjoying the senses up there - he told me i needed to get a girlfriend! but i really do just love how God fills this earth with his glory. I guess in everyday life i see so much stuff that is far away from Gods plan - even much of the good stuff that goes on is not without struggle - i just love places like drumkeeragh where its just saturated in good stuff - i guess i just get a glimpse, the smallest taste of what God is like! A good walk up there excites me about heaven too - if thats how nice a wee crappy forest in near Dromara can be - how much more life filled will heaven be. Anyway that was a good afternoon! Maybe someday, taking a little of Paul's advice i will have my Eve for the garden too! Then last night we had a beautiful full moon - by coincidence(if you believe in those things!) we were going to Jo's house in Strangford and on the way over drove straight towards the moon the whole time - such beauty - i kept having to remind myself to keep the eyes on the road! Jo's was good, especially for her dog who found the love of his life in the form of Andy Edgar's leg!. Today i headed south to the home of the black pint - the guiness factory. I must say it's definitely worth the visit if you are down that way. It was 12 euros which is a wee bit steep but there is one of those money pools (like at castlecourt) so if you're feeling entrepeneurishish (or thiefish!) then you may get one or two of those euro's back! Seriously though, the exhibition is pretty sweet - very sensual - it designed to engage all the senses - taste, touch, hearing, sight, and even smell (there's these grids to smell the ingredients at each stage of production!) so i loved it. Especially good is the video about how they make the barrels - skilled boyos those barrel makers. There was also this digital counter that was totting up the guinness consumption around the world - i guess it gave me a little insight into the massiveness of the world as over 1000 pints were added in just about 8 secs!! You'd have to see the counter move to really know what i'm saying. The tour is finished with a session at the top of the building which has a circular bar area overlooking the whole of Dublin - i liked that place - as Ben said - 'theres just something about height!' So a good day - it felt like i was on holiday. I'm looking forward now to getting stuck into the rest of the week and all the places that God will take me. posted by charlie | 11:14 PM | Saturday, September 21, 2002 Won the rugby today 48 -15 playing against Carrick 2's. It was especiallly good to play against one of my old teachers, Mr Kidd, and to show him how to do it! The game was pretty scrappy, but a win is a win at the end of the day and i got one try which is always nice to get. On the downside i did make a really bad duff up at one stage and then slipped a bit of the 's' word out - something i don't like to do up at the club(or ever!). I really love the people i have got to know up there and i would just love to see some of them come to know God and recieve the life he wants to give them. The thought that i would be sending out mixed signals scares me. I'm kinda thinking if its worth posting this info. - it's only a small thing and i've never been one to get too caught up about the odd slipped wrd - after all we are human - i guess its just the mixed signal thing - you know those verses - in 1 Peter 2 - Be careful how you live among your unbelieving friends....it is God's will that your good lives should silence those who make foolish accusations about you. Basically it's a minor issue - I just don't want the smaller things to be stumbling blocks to my mates. It aint the end of the world but i'm not in the game to settle for anything less than best. Do pray for me if you would as i attempt to live it out up there. Cheers! posted by charlie | 4:14 PM | Kirk, Vera - Passed away Sept 20th 2002 Aged 15 Died tragically whilst travelling on the Ballylone road due to engine failure. She is survived and sadly missed by her owner Rachel Kirk. I found this online discipleship course run by a church in the states - the blurb below describing the course is pretty self explanatory. Maybe some of you could have a go at this course and let me know what you think of it. Check it out at least! Disciple! an online self-study experience that will help you think about what it means to be an authentic follower of Jesus Christ posted by charlie | 6:38 PM | I read this story in the Mourne Observer - 20 years ago column - and thought it was kinda funny. Unusual Catch in Newry Canal The police in Newry surely landed one of the strangest catches on record when they 'cast their' nets' inot the town's canal. For out of the murky depths emerged no fewer thatn 13 stolen cars and an unopened office safe. The haul came after the RUC recieved information about missing vechiles and a massive search operation was launched, involving a team of frogmen armed with diving equipmentand search lamps. The missing vechiles had all been taken rom the beginning of the year, although one hardly had time to let the water settle as it had been takd just a day before the tip-off to the police. The investigating officers believed the cars had been taken by the same joy-riding gang and then dumped in the canal. Most if not all of the cars were barely worth their scrap value because of the length of time spent in the water. Maybe I'll arrange a trip to the Ballynahinch river soon - you never know what's down there! posted by charlie | 1:40 PM | Thursday, September 19, 2002 This is a powerful quote - especially for anyone considering the relationship between theory and practice! I got it off jordon cooper's blog which is linked at the side! Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., who served in combat in Vietnam and now sits on the Foreign Relations Committee, ''It is interesting to me that many of those who want to rush this country into war and think it would be so quick and easy don't know anything about war,'' he said. ''They come at it from an intellectual perspective vs. having sat in jungles or foxholes and watched their friends get their heads blown off.'' posted by charlie | 10:56 PM | LIP PRINTS According to a news report, a certain private school in Victoria, Australia recently was faced with a unique problem. A number of girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints. Every night, the maintenance man would remove them and the next day, the girls would put them back. Finally the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night. To demonstrate how difficult it was to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to clean the mirrors. He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it. Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror. There are Teachers, and then there are Educators. posted by charlie | 10:52 PM | I guess i can use this thing to post the occasional random stuff that takes place in my life. i was at the gym today and was in the jacussi for quite a time - basically i have this feeling that there was far too much chemical in it - while i was enjoying the bubbles i was also getting these weird fumes on the back of my throat. then after coming out i had a shower and after washing (yes i do that occasionally) every hair on my body felt really weird. they kinda felt artificial - like barbie's hair - the feeling hasn't really went away yet but all my hair feels like it needs a bit of moisturiser added or grease or something. posted by charlie | 10:47 PM | Wednesday, September 18, 2002 i guess a good place is to provide some quality links that can entertain you until i get the hang of this site. www.hinchrfc.com - the club at which i attempt to do my stuff at! www.theooze.com - a spiritual resource that in my opinion is on the ball!
