![]() Wednesday, October 29, 2003 Visited the Ulster Museum today... Some things of note:- - It's free.... - The mummified woman was weird to see - to think that she had a life as real as mine one day.......... now lying in a museum, albeit a bit skinnier and darker...... - The idea of being a hunter/gatherer in early Ireland highly appealed to me (accepted i've probably over romanticised the idea). Certainly the adventurous side of their lives and their relationship with the natural environment stands out. - The rocks (probably unfair to label them just as rocks - we're talking mega beautiful, shiny, colourful, expensive looking rocks) and stuff were cool - particuarly some of the ones that were found in Ireland - i didn't know we had such things - i'm going to go digging for my holidays next summer!!!! - The Texaco childrens art exhibition - some amazing paintings and sketches - particuarly when they were all done by under 18's - artists and their work amaze me - there's just something non-explicable about their abilities. - The age of the earth - there were a ton of fossils, bones, meterites etc dating back a fairly large number of years - all this added up to remind me that i'm small in the grand scale of things, that i'm fairly finite. Isn't it tempting to think that the world revolves around 'me' - today i saw lots of evidence against such a notion. It made me feel like an ant!! What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes James 4:14 posted by charlie | 7:08 PM | Did you hear about the Kid who got a David Blaine doll for his birthday?? Problem was that he couldn't get it out of it's box...... courtesy of Eddie (barman at the rugby club) posted by charlie | 6:54 PM | 'Perhaps i have sought God too much, forgetting to let the great Hound of Heaven search me out' Georgina Seymour posted by charlie | 6:52 PM | Monday, October 27, 2003 In Dublin's fair city, where Colesy was so fitty........ Congratulations to Paul Coles who completed the Dublin Marathon today. Enduring a knee injury from the 10th mile, Paul pushed through to land a pretty superb time of 4:13:30. Much respect Paul, not only for your perseverance today but also for all the training you've put in over the months up to today. The atmosphere down at the race was pretty amazing actually. There was a lot of strangers cheering each other on, handing out goodies, giving a pat on the back when necessary. It was just great to see people caring for and encouraging each other and also good to see people finishing the race after months of hard work and also a fairly intense few hours of race time. On the downside, their was these guys coming in with two symetrical lines of blood running down each side of their vest - the result of too much friction on the nipple - boy did it look painful!! As sick as it made me feel - again much respect!! posted by charlie | 6:54 PM | Thursday, October 23, 2003 Vote Peter Martin in the upcoming elections as no other candidates present themselves worthy of our votes! posted by charlie | 3:57 PM | Watched 'Catch me if you can the other night' - loved it, an amazing story. Being so comfortable in the morning and having to get out. - Arriving at a toilet only to find a wet seat! - Arriving at the bathroom cupboard and finding your toothbrush is wet (meaning someone else has used it) - My rugby team's performance of lat - 4 losses in 6 (i didn't loose a single game last season) - The rugby world cup being so early in the morning and at other inconvenient times. posted by charlie | 7:06 PM | Some of the better moments in the last month..... - A couple of Sauna, Steam room and Jacussi sessions @ Lisburn Leisure Centre - School - Working at the school has been a lot of fun - my class make me laugh alot, i love learning the stuff we're taught - especially History coursework on Kennedy's assasination (who did it??). It's also been good meeting new people on the staff. Finally - i get free lunch every day!! - Watching Matchstick Men @ the flicks - great show - just one of those entertaining movies - not deep, just fun! - A pile of free chicken at KFC one night - Sadie bloggin in Hungary - Spotting two deer at Drumkeeragh (today) - first time i've seen any deer up there posted by charlie | 7:01 PM | Well after a month or so of lying low in the blogosphere i thought i would utter a word or two......... Last month has been fairly hellish to be honest. I was supposed to go to Brazil with YFC, but just wasn't up to it and had to pull out. This was a fairly difficult decision in itself but it also seemed to catalyst alot of other bad stuff coming to the surface. For a week or two about a month ago i probably experienced some of the lowest times I've ever felt. It was like all i could see was bad stuff - disappointment, failures, fears, worries, doubts - in short i got pretty low and couldn't see my way out - it kinda felt like i was locked in and that i wasn't going to get out. It may sound weird - i've heard people describe this type of thing before but i'd never felt anything this intense before. Anyway, with the help of time, prayers, friends, some truths from God - i feel i've been able to get on my feet again. I definitely wouldn't say i'm rid of all the bad stuff but definitely feel a little more hopeful and able to live a bit more normally again. I also feel i've become alot more symapthetic to people who are having a rough ride. The reality life is tough, some if not most of the time, for alot of people. I hated this time but i do know it's helped me feel a bit more of the pain that is a normal part of life on earth. posted by charlie | 6:50 PM | |
