![]() Thursday, December 25, 2003 Band of Ballynahinch Brothers Finally was able to have a go at the Combat Games in Drumkeeragh the other day with a bunch of the lads. 12 of us went up and took part in a whole pile of different wartime scenarios, all geared up with camo clothes, masks, and quite superb guns. It was a brilliant day's craic - there's just something good about playing army!! Will be doing it again sometime - let me know if the idea interests you!! posted by charlie | 6:51 PM | Monday, December 22, 2003 Bag packing on Monday was.... Tempting - Massive amounts of deliciously attractive foods....the gateaus appealed the most Embarrassing - When one middle aged women had copious amounts of not so middle aged underwear in her shopping load. Also when i managed to knock the head off an ornament someone had wanted to purchase. Saddening - Serious amounts of plastic bags used - very few people waking up to waste!! I still think a tariff should be introduced for plastic bags like they do in the South Tedious - Sore legs and upper back - much respect to any one who works at a checkout full time - 4 hours slaughtered me!! Fruitful - we raised £1300+ for the camps in Ukraine, which did make it all worthwhile! posted by charlie | 6:39 PM | Wednesday, December 17, 2003 Don't you hate this..... posted by charlie | 3:43 PM | Tuesday, December 16, 2003 Either the hotmail staff are working hard coming up to christmas or the spammers are too busy buying pressies cos i'm hardly getting any junk mail at the minute - only 1 spam in two days compared to the 40+ i usually get daily! posted by charlie | 6:20 PM | Monday, December 15, 2003 Visited the ice bowl for the first time in a while and managed to hit a 204 - my highest yet!! posted by charlie | 10:56 PM | Accepting my lot.... Last night i was engaging in my daily foot scratching session, a routine i've found myself in, in response to my Athlete's foot. Whilst scratching my mum walked in and then suggested some cream that might help. Her basis for suggesting this cream was that it had worked for my Granda (her Dad). I hadn't been aware that he had athletes foot and said this to mum, upon which she told me, he'd got it in the war........over 55 years ago! Looks like this one could be with me till the grave!! posted by charlie | 10:05 AM | '...I think the Americans have come to realize waging peace is a lot more difficult than waging war' Donald Abelson posted by charlie | 10:03 AM | Saturday, December 13, 2003 Sweet memories Was doing a fairly ruthless clean out today of old paper stuff that had gathered up in my room over recent years. As i surveyed the material one golden find was the rediscovery of a word that I had picked up from a Summerserve leader when i was 16 or so. As an impressionable, slightly exitable young fella this word actually humoured me alot and admittedly it still does. That golden word was Encopresis....i particuarly like the definition (and diagram) on this medical site. posted by charlie | 11:57 PM | Friday, December 12, 2003 It is alleged that one of the English rugby players failed a drugs test yesterday. If positive, under World Rugby Federation rules, paragraph 6 subsection 2e, England will FORFEIT the world cup and Australia will retain the crown. I went to Spa Primary's Christmas play tonight. I rather enjoyed it. Lots of last year's class were taking part and it was also good to catch up with some of the friends i made while i worked there. We also got some great news that Andy Smyth's (the teacher whose class i was in) wife Linda, just had a baby girl called Ellie. I had to endure a few tear jerking moments this weekend past as we at BBC had to say goodbye to two legends who've been a big part of our community in recent years. Gary T left on Friday for Brazil to work with Street Children and Weeksy left to go back home to Aussie land. Off course the blow of them leaving will be somewhat softened by modern day communications, not least the old blogs. Nonetheless boys, thanks for all you've been,we'll miss ya both being around but also wish you God's biggest blessings in your different settings..... posted by charlie | 9:47 PM | 108 X £28 000 = this. posted by charlie | 9:39 PM | World Aids Day "In two short decades, HIV/AIDS has become the premier disease of mass destruction. The death odometer is spinning at 8,000 lives a day and accelerating. 3 million people have died in 2003" Dr. Jack Chow, the assistant director general of the World Health Organisation -------------------------------------------------- From a christian perspective someone has said.... 'The church will be remembered in history over how it responds to the issue of AIDS in the next century' Such sentiments are confirmed by virtually all of the Christian Agency's with any connections in the developing world. Lets not be slow to get on board. A good start would be to begin raising awareness in our churches and communities. -------------------------------------------------- Finally.... 'The British Government has doubled it's donation to UNAIDS giving $10.2 million this year.
