Some of the results have been published here. It really was fluky photography as there was a slight delay after pressing the button before the shot actually took. That said you began to read the game a little, anticapting a good shot on it's way!! As you can see some worked out! The joy of digital off course is that you can delete some - i'll not let on the ratio of sucessful shots to unsucessful! posted by charlie | 10:37 PM | Six months without a mobile This gives me second thoughts. It affirms the current position. posted by charlie | 10:32 PM | Monday, September 27, 2004 Spread the word. The Blood Transfusion service is in Ballynahinch this week. They will be in the Church of Ireland hall this Wednesday and Thursday (between 1:30pm - 4:00pm and 5:15pm -8:00pm). Said it before but I'll say it again......try and get down if you can. I donated for the first time last spring and to be honest I was petrified before i went in but felt it was something I had a responsibilty to do and I couldn't really find any reasonable justification for not doing it!!! In the end I found the experience was absolutely fine - virtually no pain and extremely rewarding feeling afterwards! Can truthfully say this time I have no holdbacks! posted by charlie | 7:08 PM | Friday, September 24, 2004 Fell victim to the HMV bug again this week. Bought Keane and Snow Patrol. *this is in addition to Katie Melua and Razorlight about 3 weeks ago. posted by charlie | 6:18 PM | Spreading some seed Just threw a few conkers into the field across the road from our house. I decided to log this here so that when i read this blog in about 10 years time, i'll be able to check the field and see if any conker trees have grown up. This will also remind of the date they were planted. The field itself is a fascinating place. Basically it's not great agricultural land(boggy etc.) and for about the past 7 or 8 years it has just been left to it's own natural devices. During this time all sorts of trees and shrubs have sprouted up(seed dispersal!!! love it) and of recent i've spotted all sorts of fauna in residence including badgers, foxes and squirrels. And just today i spotted a bird of prey(not sure what type) flying out of some of the trees. posted by charlie | 6:02 PM | Tuesday, September 14, 2004 Maybe a tape worm?? Got tested tonight at the rugby club to see how i've been progressing or regressing over the summer. Since i haven't been able to train much from injury i wasn't really expecting overly encouraging results. And they weren't. I have managed in 6/7 weeks of absolutely no training to loose over 2.5 kg of body weight and my fat count remained exactly the same. It confirmed my suspicion that when i stop training i loose weight inspite of a rather large intake of food - baffles me. My weights test hadn't got better or worse which was too worrying. The plan now is to increase food intake(particuarly protein) and get back into the weights programme so i can that lost weight back on and also strengthen up. Also got my groin looked at. Got some treatment which will hopefully speed the recover up a little. posted by charlie | 9:54 PM | Getting the hands dirty! Started a new thing yesterday in work. Some of our 4th year have started a scheme which allows them to go to Downpatrick Tech once a week to pursue some different occupational studies. It's a great scheme that allows them to get some experience in job areas that they are likely to pursue after school. And even better i get to go over with them on a supervisory basis. There are several upsides of this.....a 4 day week in Ballynahinch, getting to take Sarah Jane to and from school, getting to know some of our own pupils a little better (being in a different setting is definitely a whole lot less threatning for them) and finally i get to have a little go myself at some of the occupations they are taking part in. Up until christmas i'll be with the lads doing bricklaying. It was fun to learn a few simple things yesterday, although i had know idea how difficult it was ensuring that all the bricks are level and the right height and have the right spacing. Much respect now for all the boys out on building sites laying 1000's of bricks each day - i managed about 20 yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway looking forward to this new venture! posted by charlie | 8:57 PM | Monday, September 13, 2004 Belfast festival coming up soon. Some stuff i think I'll check out. 'The Polyphonic Spree' sound interesting. Some of the movies also caught my eye, particuarly 'South' documenting Shakelton's trip to the Antartic. And then one talk sounds like it could be a good one, entitled the adventurers. And i'm sure theres a few other things worth checking out. posted by charlie | 5:33 PM | Goings on Life has been reasonably quiet of late. Started back to work about 2 weeks ago now. Enjoying it alot, although itching to get at some teaching. Thats the plan now. This time next year i plan to go and get qualified to teach. Having looked at UCAS a few times it is looking likely that i'll be going to England. The reason for this is that I'm keen to get on the job as quick as possible and a 3 year BEd seems to be the quickest way and you can't do that in NI. Would like to be able to teach PE and/or Geography. Anyway still a year a way - i have that time to build up experience and learn from those already on the job. Life on the rugby front is quiet. I have been carrying two injuries of late but am now down to one (the original injury in my groin) but it doesn't appear to be healing at all. It's been 6 weeks since i pulled it and its starting to annoy me a little. A little on the upside is that i'm getting to coach some of the young fellas and I enjoy that too. posted by charlie | 4:49 PM | Kill a few minutes Test the nation is back at BBC. This time the subject is popular music. I didn't fair too well, only getting 26 out of 70. Also at BBC see if you can detect the difference between a fake smile and a genuine one - i only got 12/20 right. posted by charlie | 4:42 PM | Friday, September 03, 2004 A day trip with a difference - not sure i fancy this one! posted by charlie | 5:27 PM | Wednesday, September 01, 2004 I want to go here. posted by charlie | 5:49 PM | |
