![]() Saturday, November 20, 2004 Tickets on the go The club seems to have quite a few tickets available for Ireland vs Argentina next saturday at Lansdowne Road (17:30 KO). Should be a great fixture in light of today's game in Marseille. The day out in Dublin is always guaranteed craic. Let me know if you fancy some and I'll try my best to help. posted by charlie | 8:09 PM | Sunday, November 14, 2004 'Almighty Sound' ![]() Found out tonight that Johnny Parks has a new album out. Bound to worth the purchase. Always found his lyrics and music pretty refreshing. Look forward to hearing this new stuff. posted by charlie | 10:32 PM | Thursday, November 11, 2004 One guy makes two great websites... WordCount™ is an artistic experiment in the way we use language. It presents the 86,800 most frequently used English words, ranked in order of commonality. Each word is scaled to reflect its frequency relative to the words that precede and follow it, giving a visual barometer of relevance. The larger the word, the more we use it. The smaller the word, the more uncommon it is. (i enjoyed playing around with this one) 10x10™ ('ten by ten') is an interactive exploration of the words and pictures that define the time. The result is an often moving, sometimes shocking, occasionally frivolous, but always fitting snapshot of our world. Every hour, 10x10 collects the 100 words and pictures that matter most on a global scale, and presents them as a single image, taken to encapsulate that moment in time. Over the course of days, months, and years, 10x10 leaves a trail of these hourly statements which, stitched together side by side, form a continuous patchwork tapestry of human life. Tuesday, November 09, 2004 W.I. (womens institute) Couldn't let much more time pass without a little mention of my visit to the Spa W.I. last week. About 6 months ago i accepted an invitation to be part of a question panel for a visitors evening they were having. It was quite an experience. The questions arrived a week before the meeting and in short made me panic a little....Below are a few of the questions...... If i had £100 to spend on an antique what would the panel suggest i buy. Or what do they think will become an antique? It has been said that there is 'Gold in them there hills around Omagh'. Will the panel be there with pan and trowel or would they be against any such excavation that would ruin the beautiful landscape? Do the panel think matrons should be brought back into hospitals? If you were holding a dinner party and could invite 4/6 guests living or dead who would you invite? ( i said: Bono, Billy Connoly, Balaams Ass, CS Lewis) The last of these few examples i liked. The rest were difficult but we got through alright. In some questions i pleaded ignorance and abstained from giving any opinion, like the matron question, i hadn't any clue about what a matron was in the first place, never mind having any opinion on whether they should be brought back! Anyway the night was fun if a little different. Following the question time some sandwiches and trayabkes were served. Initially i was disappointed with the sandwiches. You know how it is at these things - strange contents to the sandwiches - i spotted grapes and chutney and salmon on the first tray that came to me. Eventually however i tracked down a few ham and butter numbers that went down well. Just before the evening finished the results of the prettiest Napkin were announced and prizes given to the winners. Incidentally and conveniently the chairwoman won first prize!! To finish the night the 'Country Women's Song' was sung. I tried to find the lyrics of this on the net in order to share them with you but was unsucessful. Next time I'm at the WI i'll remember to take a note of them!!! posted by charlie | 5:37 PM | 250 mb Hotmail Account - good stuff. In fact it 's common opinion that it was probably the worst start to the season the club has had since its formation over 50 years ago. However the Ulster league isn't priority with most clubs treating it as a warm up the All Ireland League. That said it tends to give an indicator of current form and on that basis most were fairly pessimistic about our AIL chances. Ironically however, the boys have found some magic from somewhere and we now look back on the best start the club has had in the AIL since we entered it. The result is that there's a real buzz about the club at the minute. Long may it continue! posted by charlie | 11:04 PM | Monday, November 01, 2004 Congratulations to Fiona Storey. Joint first in the whole of NI for A level Art last year!! source: Down Recorder! posted by charlie | 11:19 PM | Kids in wonder! I tidied up my room today including a lot of stuff from my holiday in America this summer. A few notes reminded me of an incident in the toilets at Chicago airport. Just before boarding my plane back home I decided to go to the toilet. Upon walking into the toilets I saw a middle aged man standing opposite the cubicles. I carried on past into one of the other cubicles. As I sat down it soon became apparent that the man was a father and his two children were in a cubicle each. Their (loud) discussion humoured me and embarrassed him I think. I happened to have a pen in the bag beside me at the time and I wrote what they said down. Kid 1: Uhhhh……..It’s floating!!!!!!!! Kid 2: It looks like a coral reef with logs in it, except that all the coral has turned brown....ha, ha, ha..... posted by charlie | 11:18 PM | Haunting posted by charlie | 11:15 PM | |
