The Chariot swinging lower than usual!

Had a superb day in Dublin yesterday. Was a fairly scrappy game but beating the English will always make up for that. The view was great (had seats up at the top of the East Stand), the atmosphere was immense (lots of singing etc) and although scrappy, the game was entertaining with Ireland sitting on a knife-edge for the last 15 minutes.

Now just France and Wales to go. I reckon the latter encounter will be the tester!

Smoking Ban in Northern Ireland?????

The Department of Health, Social services and Public safety is currently carrying out a consultation exercise, attempting to guage public opinion regarding a smoking ban in Northern Ireland. They outline three options for the future suggested as part of their 20 year health strategy.

To see the 3 different options and to suggest which one you favour click here. (dead simple to do - just click a few buttons!)

Based firstly on what the health professions are saying and secondly on my experiences south of the border over the past year, a complete ban would be my preferred way forward.

It would make smoking a hassle which could discourage potential starters. It would aid those attempting to stop. It would also make eating, drinking and socialising so much more pleasurable and healthy for non smokers. For those continuing to smoke, they are free to do so but not at the expense of others

Tennis - Dubai Style!

'In town for the Dubai Duty Free Men’s Open tennis tournament Andre Agassi and Roger Federer sample the court on the helipad of the Burj Al Arab hotel.'

Don't think I'd fancy stretching for too many shots on this court!

Going to the Big green acre

The older lads in school won their semi-final of the High schools Cup today, beating Downshire 32-20. They now head to Ravenhill on March 9th to take on Dromore.

Unfortunately i have an interview in Lancaster planned for that day. Now going to have to try and get it changed. Being a PE course I hope they might understand!

Coming of age.
'From the edge of the Arctic circle to the secretive world of the Japanese
geisha, this 90 minute film charts a crucial point in these children's
adolescence as they finally come of age.'

Watched this last night. A fascinating watch. The website doesn't give the same picture but gives some idea.
Kamoti in Uganda got a rough ride...the film showed his rite of passage fairly straight up....and he didn't flinch at all.....!
Andrei reminded me of some of my time in Ukraine. Probably nothing other than the language!! A sad story...seemed like some serious brainwashing had went on. the film showed his initiation in a wood outside moscow (again this reminded me of ukraine - although the stuff going on was a little different!!).
Apak was just cool!

...and in pictures.

My 10 year copper collection...

Emptied out my bottle of coppers just before christmas. Took me some time to count them all but finally ended up with a total of £164.....pretty pleased!! Now just have to take it all to the bank. I'm having to do this in installments due to the weight of them all!! New collection is already under way!

Money gets sucked back in!!

I went to the Northern Bank ATM in the town last night so i could get myself a kebab from Herrons. I ordered £20 hoping it would do me for a lock of days. Anyway I got my reciept and card etc and headed down the street. Just before i got into the chicken shop i looked for my £20 and couldn't find it. So i checked all my pockets, cleared out the wallet, dandered up and down the street where i'd walked but still couldn't find it. I then went back to the machine in case i'd forgotten to lift the money, but again no sign. I then pretty much just repeated the above activities for about 10 minutes to no effect. Eventually feeling fairly miffed i got some more money out and bought my chicken. I kept telling myself it was only £20 but that didn't help much. I hate losing things!

And so i kept thinking about it. Eventually i began to think that maybe i hadn't actually got any money out of the machine. I'd never heard of that happening. I thought i would ask around just in case. Stu Neill told me it was possible and so i decided i would visit the bank.

So this morning i headed into the bank and explained myself. It made me very happy, if a little embarrased when they told me that the machine had given me the money, i'd then failed to lift it and the machine had sucked it back in. They had a record of when it happened and also my account number. The girl said she would put the money back into my account. I'm pleased!
