![]() Friday, August 26, 2005 4 years of quietness on the cross gender relational front came to end this week! not sure that too much will be said on this just yet. but it's good. her name is jenny, she is 23, and about to start a masters in art therapy....i'm enjoying her company alot......that will do for now! posted by charlie | 3:53 PM | in the cinema at the minute. crash. i think you should watch it. pushing it for movie of the year in my books...maybe not yours!? multi threaded, full of twists and turns will/(could if allowed) generate some discussion on the complexities of the human soul/relationships/ good/evil etc. set in LA but parallels with other places. gives a little insight into why some bad stuff happens. also suggests some turn the tide type possibilities. not a bad website either. www.crashfilm.com . unfortunately my hyperlinks aren't working! posted by charlie | 12:30 AM | Thursday, August 18, 2005 What about the price of petrol folks? It's getting out of hand! I put £38.93 into my little Polo today...the most it's ever been. Not good considering i'm now back on student budget! posted by charlie | 5:31 PM | Tuesday, August 16, 2005 Enjoyed a little trapse around the new mini-golf at Dundonald tonight wtih Colesy. Well worth the visit if you're down that way. A great social activity and a very professionally finished course...you could be anywhere in the world!! posted by charlie | 12:01 AM | Friday, August 12, 2005 Worrying trends! Over the past summer I've been surprised and a little worried to find that an increasing number of my male friends, including one or two known to visit this blog occasionally, are engaging in activities that traditionally had been part of the female domain! Whether it be going to top up the tan at the local sunbeds, to the local beauty salon for a facial, or even going to the needless extremes of chest or back waxing (accepted this isn't a typically female activity but it goes with what is usually a more feminine motivation!). You expect this metrosexuality stuff in Big Brother type environments but at the local rugby club...!? I chatted about these goings on with some of the older men about the club last night and asked them would mention of such cosmetic practices been tolerated back in their day. Their answer, as could be expected, was something along the lines of 'no f**king way!'. So it appears we're living in changing times. Apparently this 'male grooming' business has grown 560% over the last 5 years in the UK and is still on the rise! I personally think the cosmetics culture we live in has ruined the lives of enough ladies without getting hold of the men. Lets hope this blip into vanity/insecurity over ones outer appearance will be short lived! posted by charlie | 10:25 AM | Tuesday, August 09, 2005 Hanging out at the Saddle! ![]() Enjoyed a little hike up Donard yesterday with my mate Gunce and his wee bro Dave who's actually not that wee. We went up alongside the Glen river and came back down into the Bloody Bridge river for a cooling dip! The weather was fantastic - probably the best i've had for a trip up to the top! posted by charlie | 1:19 PM | a free nights accommodation.... posted by charlie | 1:15 PM | Sunday, August 07, 2005 Galavanting around the Homelands! Well i just returned from some more travelling. The Richardson lads (Jeff and Johnny) plus a mate or two were heading down the west coast for a couple of days and invited me along. Spent a few days down on Achill Island initially, BBQing, surfing (attempting anyway!), playing cards, strumming and singing around the fire and visiting some of the local social environments at night for some vitamin-G. Also spent a while with a power kite for the first time. Absolutely brilliant craic getting trailed around by that thing! Then headed north via another short surf at Bundoran, before ending up in Carrickfin, Donegal. Another night of fires, singing, followed by an early morning dip and some bacon sarnies cooked on the BBQ. That afternoon we dropped about 20 minutes south to Burtonport where a very generous lad John (a mate of the Richardsons) very kindly took us out to an Island where he has a cottage. 1 mile square, the island only has one permanent resident (cows aside!) but many old ruins and great value for exploring. We enjoyed all sorts of craic dipping in and out of the water, more BBQ's and even a deep sea fishing trip this morning (personally landing only 1 Mackeral and 1 Pollock!). Arrived home around 8 this evening. What a trip. Just love the camping lark. The Irish scenery was superb - what beauty right on our doorstep. On that nore Donegal will definitely require some further exploration. posted by charlie | 10:57 PM | A pleasant surprise! Never a good thing when the first time you hear that your little sister has passed her driving theory test (with flying colours!) is through someone-elses blog! I'm now going to go downstairs to find out if these rumours are true! Well done anyhow SJ! posted by charlie | 10:53 PM | Monday, August 01, 2005 Some people asked about the Father Kolbe story i shared in church yesterday. Heres the website i found gave the best summary. http://www.auschwitz.dk/Kolbe.htm posted by charlie | 12:00 PM | Mixing it up with some serious athletes! Finished my first triathlon on Saturday......well actually that's a little misleading, the final leg of a triathlon relay (team 'pick n mix') would be more accurate. Hammy Coulter rang me last week to see if i'd do the run as part of a team with Joy and Tim Edgar. Wasn't particuarly enthusiastic but thought it wouldn't do me any harm to get some running through the legs. Turned out to be a most pleasant experience... afterwards at least! Joy fired through the water in 20 minutes (1000m swim!), Tim as can be expected, made a 20 mile cycle not seem that long completing it in 50 minutes or so and then i had to round things off with a 5 mile run, twice around Castlewellan lake. My pre-run banana threatened to part company on several occasions but in the end stayed down alright and i came in just over 35 minutes. More respect, however, goes to those who did the full thing. What a feat! I was killed over 5 miles but to have swam 1000m and cycled 20 miles before is unthinkable! Of particular note are Claire Porter and Hamilton Coulter who completed the whole thing, both in pretty impressive times! Well done folks! posted by charlie | 11:43 AM | |
