A fairly busy week.

Last Wednesday i enjoyed a dander up a wee river in Newcastle with Jeff Richardson. It leaves from the seafront up through a dark tunnel up the hillside. For a fair bit you can't see anything....works wonders for the imagination. Once we'd clambered up river as far as we could we got onto a laneway and headed across to the Glen River were we took 7 dips (Naaman style!) in the very cold water. We finished off the day with a few steaks back at Jeff's.

From Thursday to (very) early Sunday morning i head to Edinburgh to enjoy Jenny's company! We did lots of eating (some of it fantasticly prepared by Jenny!), sampled several of the social establishments on offer, climbed up to Arthur's Seat (a hill right on the edge of the city with some cracking panoramics over the area!), we visited Edinburgh castle and generally just enjoyed the delights of a city crammed with history, culture and atmosphere! I also had the pleasure of catching up with a few friends from school who i hadn't seen in sometime! I caught the 7.30 flight back which in reflection was not a good idea. I spent much of Sunday catching up on lost hours!

Sunday evening we had a very powerful evening at church. Lots of people being open and vulnerable. I suppose people were just real. Real about their struggles in life, real about regrets, real about hurts, real about God's hope. It reminded me that when people are honest with themselves and others it can bring the opportunitu for healing.

On monday i returned to University for my first classes. It's been great to find that a surprising number of people who i know, are studying up there..many that i hadn't been aware of before. So i'll be able to catch up with some of my friends that i haven't seen in a while. Also got a little more insight into the amount of work that will be required!! Some library hours will have to be put in! On the upside we also have some practical classes. We had our first ones today. I had Gaelic and Dance. The dance was a lot of fun. I'm quite sure i'll refer to it again!

It's been three years now!

Yes, 3 full years since i started blogging. I can remember the first post as clear as day. It's been a useful experience i think. I read through the archives last night. It was fun to remember some experiences that i'd forgotten, a pleasure to see other bloggers join along the way, interesting to track my own development and thoughts.......here's to a few more years hopefully!

F/T Student again

I am now officially a student at University of Ulster Jordanstown. I enrolled today, paid some fees, got my timetable and student card (discount machine!), got intimidated hearing the amount of work that lies ahead and got to meet some of my new classmates.

The only big downside was that i clocked my trip up to Jordanstown...turned out to be a 50 mile round trip from the Spa. 2 bad things about that; 1. Early rises to get there on time 2. Fuel costs (which have already been discussed here!)

Just have to wait a week now before classes start!

Hinch on Fire!

Some great rugby around the Hinch at the minute. The new coach Willie Anderson is encouraging a style of rugby that is very exciting and is a real pleasure to watch. This weekend past, the lads notched up over 50 points in the local derby against Banbridge which is a fantastic result.

Hinch Captain Jonny Cullen who played out of his skin on Saturday.

Even more pleasing is the fact that sucesses went further than the 1st XV. All the Hinch adult teams that were playing on Saturday returned to the clubhouse with a win. It's been a while since that has happened and was great to see... the past couple of seasons have been hard going... and morale had been starting to slip a little. The craic on Saturday evening was great, so lets hope things are on the turn again!

Pilates and a great result!

As mentioned above my hamstrings have been giving me a fair bit of gip over the past 7/8 months. So as part of my rehabiltation and also in an attempt to prevent further injuries i signed onto a Pilates class in Loughmoss Leisure Centre which started this evening.

Upon arriving at the centre it became quickly apparent that i was the only male on board this particular venture. I must say it was very intimidating to walk into a class full of women. I also got the impression that their motivations for being there and mine were slightly different. Nonetheless i had to fight my inhibitions and get on with it. Apart from few footballing lads outside looking in it was dead on after about 10 minutes!

Basically Pilates is a set of slow, controlled exercises designed to strengthen your core muscles (abs, glutes, lower back, inner thighs etc) and also help your balance and a little flexibility. It's too early to say how sucessful the evening was but i definitely feel like i've worked that zone a fair bit. I've signed up for 6 weeks so hopefully by the end we'll have seen some improvement.

***The class was spiced up a little when towards the end we heard a burst of shouting and cheering from outside. My initial guess was that perhaps NI had scored in the football but then reason kicked in......there's no chance of that...not against England. What pleasure when news made its way across the tanoid that they were in the lead after a Healy goal. I made it out in time to hear the final whistle being blown. What a result...from Azerbaijan to England!!! Bring on Brazil!

A smashing day in the Hills

Enjoyed a beautiful hike up around Slieve Binnian with Nala today. What a fantastic mountain to climb. The rock formations at the top are fantastic and do all sorts of stuff with your imagination.

The views are also superb. Looking South you have the Silent Valley directly below, Carlingford lough just above it and even the Wicklow mountains in the distance, visibility being so good. Looking North you're looking over Blue Lough and the Annalong Valley with Donard and Comedagh dominating the horizon.

So a lovely afternoon. The time and space in the mountains always does your heart good. However when i arrived back in the car park, i went to put Nala in the boot and noticed a few bits of glass in the car. Having heard a few stories in the past i knew exactly what had happened. I then looked up to confirm my suspicions and there it was...my passenger window had been smashed. The chaps or chapesses responsible had also forced the glove poket open where my cd player was stored but for some reason they didn't take it. Neither did they touch my cd collection. I had my wallet and phone in my bag so they were safe too.

So it wasn't as bad as i thought. A broken window is a hassle....the glass took a right while to tidy up and the car got cold tonight driving around with cold air blowing in...and i'll have to spend tomorrow getting it fixed but it could have been much worse. The one upside is that the car got hoovered out again! Thats twice in as many weeks which is a very rare things. I had to do the same when i took Jenny out for our first date!!
