![]() Monday, October 31, 2005 Norn Irish lad returned to the homeland! I've never met Si Johnston, i just followed a link to his site one day by chance, but he is a local lad. He's only just moved back here from London to work with his family business selling cars after a number of years studying at London Bible College and then working for Oasis Trust in one of their latest ventures church.co.uk. Since picking up that link a year or so ago I've enjoyed much of what he has written. He is very articulate in thought and communication and has lots of stuff to say about the matrix of life/faith/church in the 21st century etc. I have found his words stretching, releasing, refreshing encouraging and certainly not conventional! He writes honestly, openly and relevantly and isn't scared to ask tough questions of himself or the world he moves in. His latest post captures some of his grappling as he reflects on the transition from working at Oasis to working as a car sales man on the North Coast and some of the challenges he is faced with as he tries to live for the kingdom in this new context! The Kingdom in the Corporate Sector Many of us cannot live in a segregated world. I have not found the jump from church to business too difficult because both involve the fleshing out of kingdom values/principles with only slightly differing contexts. Hence my look of confusion when people keep asking me what it's like to have 'left' the church/ministry to go into business, as though what I did before was all about other people and now it's about lining my own pockets? I'll write more about my thoughts on this in days to come hopefully....more It's about time i added him to my links list. Now that he's home I'll maybe attempt to hunt him down for a bit of a chat. posted by charlie | 10:07 PM | Always worth dropping by for some Reverend Fun. posted by charlie | 9:01 PM | Recent goings on.......... ] Week previous to last i knocked about with an old friend from Seattle, Dave Farmer. Dave had stayed with me in 1998 as part of YFC summer programme. We've kept in touch since and it was great to have him over...great to catch up and I also find when you've someone over you tend to do a few things that you mightn't do in an average week. We tried out the IMAX down at the Odyssey last week for the first time. The movie (T-Rex)was average enough but the 3-D experience was absolutely phenomenal! At certain moments I jumped thinking things were going to hit me. We took a few danders here and there. One up round the top of Binnian and down into the caves in the annalong valley and we had a late night trip to Drumkeeragh with Ricey. ![]() Dave in the cave! ] My gran turned 85. Had a bit of a doo up in the motherland (ballymena). Was particuarly nice to see some of the relations home from Norway. ] jenny was home this weekend. nice to see her and spend a little more time getting to know each other a bit more. ] My boys recorded their first league win on Saturday beating Coleraine 51-5. I have a young, inexperienced side this year. I'm loving it really. They are like sponges, taking it all in and improving every week! A pleasant experience for a coach! ] Hinch 1sts recorded their first AIL league win on a very, very wet and windy afternoon at Ballymacarn. ] Yesterday I attended the dedication of Eva Grace McConville up at Emmanuel Christian Fellowship. She's a beautful, life filled, inquistive, always smiling baby girl. Neil and Karen(her mum and dad) are real good friends of mine and they'd asked me to be like a Godfather(prayer partner) type figure to her. After some thought I agreed. It's a huge honour to be asked but also a fair amount of responsibility!!! I'll maybe try and get a photo of her up here! ] Pulled of a cartwheel along a bench today in gymnastics. Quite pleased with myself! ] My car passed it's first M.O.T. tonight. I'm so glad of that. No costly work to be carried out. Money wouldn't be overflowing at the minute. In fact i overdrew for the first time ever last week! I knew i was low...but i hadn't counted on a cheque that i written 6 weeks ago coming through so late! They charged me £34 for the mishap but the friendly bank lady took pity and got £25 refunded!!!!! posted by charlie | 8:02 PM | Wednesday, October 26, 2005 Amazon now doing free delivery on orders over £15. I love getting packages in from amazon! The greater good ist that using amazon has often saved me from having to enter the catacombs of Faith Mission in Belfast! posted by charlie | 12:13 PM | Wednesday, October 19, 2005 A Watson alright! ![]() Much respect must go to Hope, Monday, October 17, 2005 Smoking ban in Norn' Ireland's Public Places Very happy to hear this news today - not a day too soon! Will definitely make life more pleasant when out and about!!! posted by charlie | 4:25 PM | New Skills! ![]() Acrobating in the beautiful surrounds of Belfast's Botanic Gardens. I've tried many times throughout my lifetime with absolutely no sucess but today with a little bit of expert instruction I managed to pull off my first ever Monday, October 10, 2005 An encouraging evening I returned to Mannafest for the first time in a long while on Saturday evening. I used to be there every month throughout my teen years and then went on to be involved in the leadership of it for a number of years after that but ended up having to step back a few years ago. It was great to be back. It was great to be amongst people who share a Love for God and his world. It was great to be amongst young people whose minds and hearts are more open than your average 20 something! It was great to hear a talented communicator give lots of food for thought (Thinking about the Beattitudes - particuarly, Blessed are the poor in spirit or as he put it...Blessed are those who are broken and depend on God). It was great feel free in how to worship and express myself to God. It was great to bump into some old friends. I think i'll be back this year..... posted by charlie | 1:36 PM | A poor 103! Bowled for the first time in a while on Friday night past. It was my first time at 'Extreme Bowling' at Dundonald.....not that there's anything extreme about it. Unfortunately neither was my bowling. I only managed to break the ton 'and' i got beat by a female - very disapointing! On the upside i did win an 'Extreme Bowling' cap for striking on demand of the DJ! A rematch is to be arranged with the lady concerned! posted by charlie | 1:30 PM | Tuesday, October 04, 2005 Here's the man behind the dancing at University. posted by charlie | 5:34 PM | |
