![]() Thursday, January 26, 2006 Which sportscar are you? I'm a Chevrolet Corvette(apparently) ![]() 'You're a classic - powerful, athletic, and competitive. You're all about winning the race and getting the job done. While you have a practical everyday side, you get wild when anyone pushes your pedal. You hate to lose, but you hardly ever do.' Not sure that's a terribly accurate description....but definitely sounds like something a North American might want to hear! 'What are you? Try the 'Which sportscar are you?' quiz! posted by charlie | 6:15 PM | Bloggers Colesy is back on board and my mate Dave Farmer has just started! posted by charlie | 5:41 PM | Stroked at the dentist I've been having a wee bit of pain in the back of my mouth over the past few months and suspected i might need a filling so i decided to book a check up at the dentist. I had it today. He sat me down on the chair. Within less than a minute he had surveyed my mouth and informed me that i needed one filling and that he also wanted a few quick pictures of past fillings to check all was ok. He took me into X-ray room and too 2 quick snaps...again taking less than a minute. As we left the x-ray room i expected him to give me a painkilling injection and then get the filling sorted but instead he informed me I'd need to book another visit as I'd only booked a check up. I dandered over to the secretary and got the first date available....at the end of February. I then asked her how much i owed for today's vist....she told me to hold on while she calculated it...it really can't have been too difficult as i was only in the place for about 2 minutes and had only really had to quick snaps taken of my teeth............it all comes to £9.74. Stroked or what!? posted by charlie | 5:34 PM | 2 busy days Had a fun time in Edinburgh. Seemed like I packed alot into two days. Spent most of Tuesday touring some of the sights with Andy and Sparkle, including the impressive Parliament buildings, a hike up to Arthur's seat, a look into the olympic sized pool with it's 10m diving board, a quick jaunt around the Royal Museum(twas free!) and a quick visit to Greyfriars Bobby's grave. ![]() Overlooking the Parliament Buildings on the way up to Arthur's Seat Enjoyed a lovely meal and evening with Jenny on Tuesday evening and then spent more time galavanting about the city on Wednesday including a trip up to Calton Hill offering more stunning panoramics! The trip was also characterised by lots of food. I love how cities offer so much vareity by way of eateries. Bak to pack lunches next week though! One slightly peculiar episode did take place when a little old lady approached me to ask me a few questions for a survey about 'Short trips.' I was in no rush so i decided i would. She asked me 5/6 questions and then asked if i would come inside to so she could ask my opinion on a few things. She led me up this dingy staircase. As we took each step i became increasingly concerned about what i'd let myself in for. I hadn't seen any I.D. nor did i know where exactly she was leading me or what she wanted to show me! It all felt a little bit dodgy... perhaps it was some new form of organised crime where they send out little old ladies to gather in innocent victims! In the end it turned out to be a pub and i was reasurred to see alot of other little old ladies carrying out interviews with people from the street! The interview itself seemed to go forever. It probably lasted for 30 minutes and involved all sorts of questions about short breaks and different opinions on destinations around europe. I also had to view an advert about Edinburgh and give my thoughts on it and say how it affected me. In the end i felt slightly hard done by. I'd been decent enough to help them with their survey but they really had not elluded to the fact that i would have taken so long, however just before i left the wee woman came over with a few vouchers for Boot's - £3 pounds in all! That made me feel slightly better! With heinsight One does have to commend the surveying company for their 'little old lady' strategy... they really are non threatening, and you like to help them if you can.....however next time i'll be a little more cautious if I'm approached.... posted by charlie | 4:54 PM | Tuesday, January 24, 2006 Trip around Europe: Part Deux I'm off to Edinburgh in the morning for a couple of days. It's Jenny's birthday so i thought i'd make my way over. She will be in uni most of tomorrow so i was just going to knock about the city for a while on my own but by shear co-incidence it turns out Andy and Sparkle are going to Edinburgh for a few days touring, so i'll be able to hook up with them for a while. Even stranger is that they are going out on the same flight....it'll be like inter-railing all over again...... sadly Johnny and Rebecca won't be able to join us though! posted by charlie | 12:32 AM | Monday, January 23, 2006 Rachel Cureton whose staying with us at the minute asked an interesting question this afternoon, 'What exactly do you do with a dead whale?' [check out the bottom of this link] posted by charlie | 4:13 PM | Sunday, January 15, 2006 First wireless experience. Gregory sorted out our wireless network in the house this weekend and also sorted me out with a wireless card. So now i have access to the internet from anywhere in the house. I just had a chat with SJ on msn...she was upstairs on the house computer...a little bit weird! Only downside is that my fertility levels are likely to take a bit of a downturn due to the extra heat coming off my laptop! Mostly though it seems this will be a positive move. Next step is to try and get the church to install a wireless network! Could be fairly useful in Senior youth amongst other things!! posted by charlie | 5:35 PM | Friday, January 13, 2006 Happy new year! Yes i know it's a little belated. We welcomed in the new year by having a bunch of friends round to the house, an hour at church from 11.00 to 12.00 and then everyone back to our place for some craic. Since then I've spent my days mixing time with jenny, some rugby and some revision for an exam that i did on tuesday past. Inevitably during the off period a few more movies were digested. I only mention three........ 1. Mr and Mrs Smith with Mr Pitt and Mrs Jolie was absolutely terrible....very, very, too far fetched! 2. Ghandi by Richard Attenborough......what a man (ghandi that is!!!!!!)! A very inspiring story. A man who lived with an open mind, a big heart, bucket loads of conviction and courage, who fought as hard as any hero you'll hear and yet believed and practiced non violence! He reminded me of someone else i admire! Great line.. 'An eye for an eye just makes the whole world blind' 3. Gone with the Wind..........only managed the second half of this classic. the first time i've watched it. sorta left you hanging at the end.......frankly my dear i don't give a damn....and all that! posted by charlie | 3:14 PM | |
