![]() Saturday, May 27, 2006 One to see (well actually a few to see!) Emma's much anticipated showing of her final uni pieces! ![]() ![]() Monday, May 22, 2006 Chopper ride! ![]() ![]() I thought it might feel a bit vulnerable to be in what is really nothing more than a wee bubble in the sky but it once i was up it was fine..just like being on a plane. The views were spectacular and it was especially nice to fly over home and the lake and all. *If you ever intend on doing the maze at Castlewellan, this picture might help! posted by charlie | 2:51 PM | Saturday, May 20, 2006 Forgot to mention that Binder's cove is now open for any of you that were interested! Definitely worth a trip out there....very magical! posted by charlie | 12:38 AM | Itchy Feet So, home almost a week now and i've had major itchy feet in both the literal and figurative senses. Literally my feet have been wild itchy since i came home....i think its the athletes foot back again after all the walking around in new york. taking steps to get it sorted before scratching becomes an addictive habit again! Figuratively it's been hard to settle back into routine (maybe because i don't have any at the minute - uni finished on monday after the exam and with rugby stuff finishing last weekend my diary is now seriously empty!). As a result i checked out some flights to Norway where i have family. Flights turned out to be cheap as chips and so the debit card came out again to book a week in the middle of june! Come July I start work with the IRFU Ulster Branch as a camp manager. I'll be looking after 8 week long camps for the duration of July and August all across the province. Really looking forward to the challenge of it and of course the remuneration before the credit card is needed for flights! posted by charlie | 12:22 AM | Saturday, May 13, 2006 Back ho-am! Touched down from NY this morning. Flight went well....no mid atlantic traumas thankfully! Finished off my touring in the city with a few more experiences..... Got a half price show just off Broadway called Drumstruck It featured a whole lot of African drumming, dancing and singing. The fun bit was that everyone in the audience had a bongo drum and was invited to take part being led by a member of the cast. Also took a stroll through central park bringing back memories of Home Alone 2 and also introducing me to a range of peculiar people eg. a man carrying out some interpretative dance on his roller blades. ![]() I came back up the road with the guys in their tour van and stayed the night in their hotel before heading to the airport to come home. posted by charlie | 4:34 PM | Tuesday, May 09, 2006 oh aye. forgot to say i didn;t get the job at the ulster branch. definitely a wee bit disappointed as this one paid very well and would have stretched me a fair bit. however on the upside they've expressed an interest in taking me on for another job for part of the summer. not sure of details but definitely takes the sting out of not getting the main post! posted by charlie | 11:53 PM | Hello from NYC! I'm sitting in a studio, listening to my mate landon and his band doing a rehearsal. I've been able to pack a fair bit into the few days that i've been here. Been to sights such as.... Empire State Building Times Square World Trade Centre site Brooklyn Bridge Wall Street Broadway (although not to any shows..maybe will if i can get one at the right price) The Body Exhibition - basically a load of dead chinese people with no skin on!! Absolutely fascinating...especially having studied a lot of physiology this year! Also got to see landon play a gig last night (just about -messed up my clock adjustment and arrived late - luckily he started late!). It was pretty special being able to watch him play. hostel is fine - comfy and clean in a nice area. only problem is the person to bathroom ratio which is about 30:2. not good when you wake up in the morning needing a pee! The bottle was very nearly put to use after almost 45 minutes of waiting on some dutch ignoramus to come out of the bathroom! So there you go, despite my strong rural tendancies i'm loving the city. So many sights, sounds, smells, tastes and cultures packed into a compact area. It kinda feels like you belong around here because you are different. Its the differences between people that seem to give New york it's unique culture. I like that. home on saturday. not sure yet how i'll spend the next few days. maybe a trip to philadelphia at some stage!? posted by charlie | 11:31 PM | Sunday, May 07, 2006 a few things 1. lectures are finished at uni. one exam left on the 15th may. 3. going on an adventure in the morning. will say more about it later in the week. posted by charlie | 10:40 PM | Tuesday, May 02, 2006 'Madman' Alive and selling CD's ![]() to that end he and his wife are just about to embark on a year long mission to the americas. to raise funds he and his wife are selling their entire CD collection (6-700 cds). I let you know this for 2 reasons. 1. you might get a fantastic bargain on some first class cds 2. anything that would empower shane and his wife to ministry would be a good thing in my mind!*before you purchase any cds check their 'list of sold cds' on their blog. I have my eye on a few albums. I'll let you know what ones i get. posted by charlie | 11:56 AM | Monday, May 01, 2006 Belfast Marathon 2006 I went for a wee run today as part of a relay team in the 25th Belfast City Marathon! We were team number 3334 and i had leg 3, a 6.5 mile leg beginning at the top of the Crumlin Road, crossing to the Antrim Road, up to the Zoo, down alongside Whiterock and ending up at Gideon's Green near the loughshore. I'd done enough pre-training to make it enjoyable and finished in around 52 minutes which i was pretty happy with! Also had Ross bingham to keep me company for most of the way which always helps the motivation levels! However the greatest achievement of the day belongs to heroes Gary Harpur and Dave Dunlop who with next to no specific training started the relay at Leg 1 and decided to see how far they could go. I picked up the relay band off Dave at 9.3 miles...a major feat...but wait....i then saw the two of them going along rightly at 17 miles and about and hour and half later at 24.5. The lads went on to finish the whole thing in a time of around 4 hours 5o minutes!!!! I have always been amazed by people finishing marathons...but to finish one without any specific training... well the dictionary doesn't contain adjectives to describe such things! Well done lads - you're absolute legends! I'll chip in for your wheelchairs!! posted by charlie | 3:03 PM | |
