![]() Saturday, June 24, 2006 Below is the work of a woodpecker. This is a tree behind my Uncle and Aunty's cabin in Norway. I was quite amazed by this. Apparently it's quite noisy when they;re at work. ![]() ![]() posted by charlie | 12:03 AM | How Smart is Your Right Foot? This is so funny that it will boggle your mind. And you will keep trying at least 50 more times to see if you can outsmart your foot, but you can't. 1. While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles. 2. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand.Your foot will change direction. I told you so .....And there's nothing you can do about it Thanks to Nicola Lunn for this one! posted by charlie | 12:01 AM | Thursday, June 22, 2006 Home again Well i'm home. Updates didn't prove to be as frequent as i'd hoped but that's neither here nor there. The trip was absolutely unbelieveable. I shook my head so many times in disbelief at the beauty i was seeing all around me and the experiences i was able to have. Mixed in with all this was being able to catch up with my family out there...we're pretty close and it was great just to spend lots of time together. Below are a few photos from my trip. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Friday, June 16, 2006 Skiing in June! ![]() My schedule has been packed since i arrived...celebrating Filip's 4th birthday from the moment i arrived, to yesterday when i travelled north a few hours with my cousin's husband geir to climb one of the largest mountains in the area, Gaustatoppen. Although much larger than Donard at 1880 metres it's a similar type of climb because you start at 1000m above sea level. However the thing that made the climb very special was the snow. The ridge out to the summit was covered in snow that would swallow your leg every so often if you took a wrong step...and i did several times. At the top we enjoyed absolutely stunning views over 1/5 of Norway and what a beautiful country it is....with splatterings of lakes, forests, and snow capped mountains. href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/2300/107/1600/norway%20002.jpg"> ![]() Anyhow need to run....off for some sailing today and then down to the lakeside cabin for the weekend for some r + r in the form of swimming, fishing, canoeing etc. posted by charlie | 9:06 AM | Tuesday, June 13, 2006 Off to norway in the morning for a week. I spent today hunting down some gifts for the folks over there who'll be looking after me. I wanted to get them something unique from northern ireland without having to buy tea towels, irish linen or guinness merchandise. Fortunately i was able to grab a few things that i will enjoy giving; A Duke Special CD, Mickeybo and Me DVD, and a northern ireland kit for my little cousin Filip who has his 4th birthday on Thursday...just a chance to remind his of his roots! Looking forward to the clean air. posted by charlie | 11:37 PM | Monday, June 12, 2006 the sun is definitely doing its job. i went to tyrella today with sadie for a dip and the water was lovely. We were able to stay in for near 1/2 an hour without wet suits! I'd forgotten how much fun it was to play in the waves! posted by charlie | 7:34 PM | Friday, June 09, 2006 willy moves on.... it was announced this week that the hinch have some new coaches in charge. (ps i think we know the photographer who took the snaps for her site too!) posted by charlie | 10:20 PM | lots of creativity on display! went down to the art college tonight for the graduates end of year show. the place was hiving with people with hundreds of graduates showing their work. it kinda felt the 'balmoral show' of the art world. i got to see a few friends work. emms spence had a few of her farm pieces up and they were superb. she kinda went absent for a few weeks there but tonight proved it was very much worth the hard work.... well done emma...blown away by your talent...i'm quite sure both your degree classification and your wallet will reward you for your effort! i also got to see sparkle's work....another talent amongst us....she designed a cutting edge jewellry shop that looked very impressive.....again the result of a few months hard graft..sparkle know's i'm not into jewellry much but i was amazed at some of the ideas, concepts and skill she'd employed in her project! i didn't get to see many other artist's work so i'll probably go down some day this week to sample some more of the stuff on display(on tues - sat 11-4 each day if you're interested!). i remain convinced that being creative is one of the most holy things we can be at and reckon we in the church should be encouraging the arts a whole lot more than we currently are... in keeping with the art theme on wednesday evening i'm heading to see sadie's (gareth crother's) photography display in portadown! should be good! posted by charlie | 12:28 AM | Way out west! ![]() leaving on friday around tea time, i stopped of at b + q on the way up and bought my first ever bbq along with charcoal and a pack of cooking utensils (and felt very manly in the process!). we arrived just in time to catch the sunset on the top of a sand dune next to where we were camping on a wee island called carrickfin. after getting the gear all set up and enjoying a few snacks off the bbq we headed down to one of the local pubs where we had heard there was a beauty contest taking place. the pub was packed and in the end i didn't really get to see much of the beauty contest which was taking place in a wee back room..instead we sat in the front room which was full of old men with weather beaten faces who were consuming barrels loads of beer! we didn't make it out till the wee hours as we all caught up with the goings on in each other's lives. saturday was class. day of the year i'd say. started with a refreshing dip in the atlantic followed by some craic on the beach. we started with french boules but the game evolved somewhat and we ended up playing a game of throwing golf all over the beach. basically we dug a load of holes and threw the ball instead of hitting it! I was quite impressed when i birdied the second with a throw from 30 metres away! sparky won in the end though after we both finished 2 under and had to play a few sudden death holes to see who would take the honours! The rest of the day involved a few bbq's on the beach, a few more dips in the water, some frisbee and some guitar playing and singin with the sun in my face as it lowered in the horizon...i stood in the water as i played and sang to america or whoever else was out there in the atlantic listening!! We spent 12 hours on the beach on saturday! On sunday we slept in a fair bit, cooked a few pancakes for brunch and then hit the road for home. A superb few days sampling some of the best that ireland has to offer! posted by charlie | 12:01 AM | |
