![]() Thursday, December 21, 2006 Mary's song Blue homespun and the bend of my breast keep warm this small hot naked star fallen to my arms. (Rest… you who have had so far to come.) Now nearness satisfies the body of God sweetly. Quiet he lies whose vigor hurled a universe. He sleeps whose eyelids have not closed before. His breath (so slight it seems no breath at all) once ruffled the dark deeps to sprout a world. Charmed by dove’s voices, the whisper of straw, he dreams, hearing no music from his other spheres. Breath, mouth, ears, eyes he is curtailed who overflowed all skies, all years. Older than eternity, now he is new. Now native to earth as I am, nailed to my poor planet, caught that I might be free, blind in my womb to know my darkness ended, brought to this birth for me to be new-born, and for him to see me mended I must see him torn. Luci Shaw posted by charlie | 1:21 PM | Monday, December 18, 2006 Arrived safe and solid! I'm posting from Targu Mures, Romania today. The week preceding my travel yesterday was a beast. On monday evening i took ill and spent the rest of the week either on the bog, in bed or slumped out on the sofa. Fortunately i don't get ill all that often....about once every 5 years or so i reckon......and thats a good job because i don't do sick very well. I pretty much feel like i'm dying the whole time! Last week was bad though because with each day i got closer to romania and really didn't seem to be improving. At certain moments i wondered if i would make it. Thankfully on sunday things swung round for the better.....i had my first solid desposit for almost a week in Dublin airport which was a moment of much internal joy!! So there you go I'm now here all in one piece. The journey went well. All the bags made it. They contained alot of presents from people at home and also a fairly substantial lump of ham!!! Nothing out of the ordinary happened along the way but the air hostess between budapest and targu mures was called Barbi...thought that was humourous! Anyhow now looking forward to a couple of weeks with paul and fiona. In the few hours we've already spent together it has been great just catching up. It's going to be a fun trip. posted by charlie | 2:20 PM | Wednesday, December 06, 2006 Turkey packing! Christmas dinner took on a whole new meaning for me last night. The father of one of the lads heading to kenya with us next summer is a turkey farmer and he offered to donate some money to the fund if a few of us came down to the farm last night to help them load turkeys on to a truck. Before heading down i was warned that it would be hard work....this turned out to be the understatement of the century!!! We started at 8.00 and had, over the next 5 hours, 4000 turkeys to load on to 3 trucks. The procedure was fairly straight forward. Some of the lads caught the turkeys by sneaking up behind them and grabbing their legs, they then passed them to us, the carriers, who took them to the packers who then put them into crates on the trucks. For the first hour or so i managed to carry a turkey in each hand but after that i began to cramp up big style and just had to settle for 1 in two hands apart from when i got two light turkeys. I did feel like a bit of a fruit for this.....lots of the other lads managed 1 in each hand for the whole evening! Being rugby players i think they expected more of us too! Anyhow, even at one turkey for a fair bit of the evening, by the end of night my hands were red raw, my arms pretty powerless and several parts of my back very close to spasm...in short, i was goosed!!! I can truly say it was probably the hardest nights work i've ever done. The good news is that we have another night at it tomorrow but only 2000 birds to shift this time! The whole experience has reminded me that i might need to get out on a building site before we go to kenya so i can toughen up a bit. It has also led to me seriously considering chicken for christmas dinner.....at least they'd be a bit lighter to carry! posted by charlie | 4:07 PM | Tuesday, December 05, 2006 Landon makes a new video posted by charlie | 11:29 AM | |
